Two signs that you'd find a tennis coach's services helpful

Here are some signs that you'd find a tennis coaching service helpful.

You've sustained a specific tennis-related injury more than once

If you've sustained the same tennis-related injury more than once, then you should probably use a tennis coach's services. The reason for this is that if you've sustained the same injury multiple times as a result of playing tennis, then this could be an indication that the injury wasn't caused by a one-off error on your part or some issue with the playing conditions on the tennis court, but was instead caused by some problem with your tennis-playing techniques.

For example, if you've had 'tennis knee' in the same knee several times now, this could be because you're putting too much of your weight on this knee joint when you're jumping whilst serving or when jumping forward whilst trying to return a serve.

If this is the case, you might be able to avoid injuring your knee in this way again by getting a tennis coach to assess how you move your body when you do these things and to then provide suggestions when they identify what error you're making that is damaging your joint. For example, if they suspect you're jumping too high when serving (and thus landing on the ground very forcefully), they might show you ways to add power to your serve without jumping at all or by only jumping very slightly.

You have identified your strengths and weaknesses

After playing tennis regularly for a few months, you will come to learn which aspects of it you have a natural aptitude for and which aspects of it you struggle with. If you've had this realisation, it could be worth using a tennis coach's services to help you address your weaknesses.

For example, if you have plenty of upper body strength, then you might find delivering a powerful and speedy serve quite effortless; however, if you're naturally very slow-footed, returning serves might be harder as you may not be quick enough to reach out and strike the ball.

A tennis coach could, in this situation, suggest ways to counteract this weakness. They might help you to work on agility drills so you can learn to move faster and might teach you ways to move more strategically so you have to take fewer steps to reach the ball; for example, they might suggest ways that you can lengthen your stride, so it only takes you two steps, rather than three, to travel a certain distance.
